Distillery Feature: Flat Rock Spirits

Everything about Flat Rock Spirits is correct.

The bourbon, the rum, the moonshine, the outlook on the interconnected relationship between man, the galaxy and a perfect two-finger pour... They get it. They get it so much they’ve even got a blog that (correctly) waxes poetic about the health benefits of bourbon.

Who needs the Affordable Care Act when you can let the magic elixirs from Flat Rock cure what ails you? You might not know them by name, but their products sell under the Stillwrights brand name. Wrights as in the Wright Brothers, from Flat Rock’s home state of Ohio. You might know the Wright brothers, they were from Dayton, where airplanes are big a deal—almost as big a deal as the deliciousness of Stillwrights Bourbon.

Flat Rock co-founders Brad, Shawn and James call themselves “craftsmen.” What does that mean? They suffer over the details. Big time. We’re talking lay-awake- at-night- level suffering over everything they did that day will create the best spirits possible. They try to do it right all the time, meaning they make the right choices about their ingredients, like only sourcing corn grown locally in Ohio. That’s dedication.

Admittedly, we did find one thing about their operation that is not correct. When we plugged in our zip code into their product-finder, we got no results. Zero. There are no Stillwrights within 100 miles of our fair city of Chicago.

Unacceptable.

But we can take steps to resolve this issue, my friends. We can join hands and sip Stillwrights together on May 20 at the Heartland Spirits Fest. We can casually corner the guys with the “Distributor” name badges and say, “Do your job! Do your job!”

We’ll see you on May 20.
